Aloe- and Rice Extract-based Cream Impresses in Sensitive Skin

A nature-based moisturizing cream containing aloe and rice extract improves moisturization and skin barrier function in individuals with dry and sensitive skin, according to research presented at the 2024 American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA.

The study included 32 females with moderately dry skin who applied Burt’s Bees Hydrating Face and Body Cream with Aloe and Coconut Oil for Sensitive Skin to one lower leg for two weeks. There was a significant improvement in moisture and skin barrier function in individuals with dry and sensitive skin when compared to baseline, Hemali Gunt, PhD, head of clinical and scientific affairs at Burt’s Bees, in an interview with TDD.

In a related study, 42 women with atopic dermatitis or rosacea used the same moisturizing cream on their faces for six weeks. The  result? The cream maintained a diverse and balanced facial skin microbiome in sensitive skin.

Further evaluations could determine that the product may improve microbiome health, tipping the scale toward good bacteria,  Dr. Gunt says.
